Departing from Calgary or Edmonton, our Alberta and NWT self drive tour follows First Nations and European trading routes that pre-date Canadian Confederation and take you to some of the North’s most beautiful natural attractions including Nahanni and Wood Buffalo National Parks.

Travel Itinerary:

Day 01 - Calgary or Edmonton - Peace River
Travel the historic route to Alaska Hwy “Mile 0”, via the town of Athabasca or Smith. Great Canadian Inn

Day 02 - High Level
Travel in the footsteps of Sir Alexander Mackenzie on the Mackenzie Route. Great Canadian Inn

Day 03 - Hay River
Traverse NWT border today, visit beautiful Twin Falls Gorge, tour Hay River. Ptarmigan Inn

Day 04 - Hay River
Day tour on Hwy 5 to Wood Buffalo NP (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Bison/wildlife commonly spotted. Ptarmigan Inn

Day 05 - Yellowknife
Cross Mackenzie River by ferry, see Ft.Providence’s mission, Great Slave Lake. Chateau Nova

Day 06 - Yellowknife
Optional First Nations village tour, learn about traditional native life, see real Teepee’s! Chateau Nova

Day 07 - Fort Simpson
South to Ft. Providence, then west following Mackenzie Valley, cross Liard River. Bannockland B&B

Day 08 - Fort Simpson
Flightseeing tour over stunning Nahanni NP, see Virginia Falls, twice the height of Niagra! Bannockland B&B

Day 09 - Fort Nelson
Drive rugged Liard Hwy, views of Nahanni Butte, lunch/fuel in Ft. Liard, cross BC border. Lakeview Suites

Day 10 - Fort St. John
Famous Alaska Hwy offers stunning views, take side trip to Sikanni Chief Falls. Lakeview Suites

Day 11 - Dawson Creek
Peace River country features rolling parkland, aspen forests, wildlife. Bear Mountain Granaries.

Day 12 - Edmonton or Calgary
Take main route via Whitecourt, or detour to Grand Cache, Hinton/Jasper to Edmonton and onwards to Calgary (optional). End.
